Donating Online with PayPal

What is PayPal, and how is Christ the King Church using it to  enable online donations?
PayPal allows us to collect donations from a button on our  website. It is a low cost way for us to make it convenient for you to donate for general church operations of for special projects, or, perhaps to send a donation when you cannot make it to church.

Why did you choose PayPal?
PayPal is the most widely-used donation provider and we have confidence in its reliability. Also, it is inexpensive. In fact, we do not pay  anything unless someone donates, and then PayPal retains a small portion of  the donation as a transaction fee. As a charitable organization in Canada, we pay only 1.6% plus 30 cents per transaction. That means for a $100 donation, we get to keep $98.10.

Will the information I provide be kept private?
We take your privacy very seriously. When you make a donation, the church bookkeeper receives an email with your name, the amount of your donation, your physical address and your email address. The addresses will be used to supply official tax receipts and may be used to contact you if there are any questions about your donation. Christ the King Church never shares your information with anyone else. In addition, PayPal does not share your credit card number or any of your banking information with Christ the King Church. For more information, see PayPal’s privacy policy.

Do I have to have a PayPal account?
Not for single donations.  Once you press the "Donate" button, look for the link that allows you to choose to use a major credit card (VISA, Mastercard, American Express, etc.). You can use one of them for single donations without ever signing up for PayPal. If you set up an automatic monthly payment, a PayPal account will be needed, and can be set up from the Donation link in a few easy steps.

How secure is online giving/payments?
PayPal is a secure way to make a payment with your credit card or bank account because this information is only processed on PayPal’s secure system. The church never sees or has access to your credit card or bank account information.

Is there any charge or fee to me for this service?
No. You select the dollar amount for your gift or payment. That is the dollar amount that will be charged and your entire donation is tax deductible. The church pays a nominal fee to PayPal for the convenience and security of this service.

Do I have to be a member of the church to donate?
No. We are grateful for support from all who feel motivated  to do so. In fact, the Christ the King Refugee Sponsorship Project is being led by a committee made up of different church communities.

How do I make sure my donation is credited to the correct  campaign?
On the PayPal checkout page for individual donations, there is a place to designate the purpose of your donation.

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. As a charitable organization, Christ the King Church is qualified by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to receive contributions from donors. These donations are tax-free to the church.  Donors, in turn, may be able to deduct their contributions to churches on their income tax return. Christ the King Church issues official tax receipts early each year for donations received through the previous year, provided your donations total $20 or more.

I cannot figure out how to make PayPal work.
Please email or call the church office at 250-498-3934 if you need help.
